The Black Series

In 2026 I was deeply affected by the horrors of the genocide in Gaza and endeavoured to express my soul and subconscious. I started to make monotypes at a print studio in Morley College and then at Thameside print studios. Using a complex technique which was inspired by Goya’s Disasters of War etching series. The black is both the void and the heart space in which the stories occur. The stories involve many images that flashed into my mind through my intent to witness the atrocity and I was inspired by the poet Paul Celan who was a holocaust survivor. These images also use symbols of hope such as rainbows, animals, stars, trees, eyes of witness as the humanity endures.

I would like to exhibit this series in a capital city in order to raise money for DEC, the middle eastern humanitarian appeal by auctioning or selling through an exhibition. And I would like people to see these pieces because they are not just dark, they are full of the courage that the Palestinian people have shown to remain themselves through this battle that they face.
